A live-action remake of a Disney classic. What could possibly go wrong?

This movie stars Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, and Gong Li among others.
I like cheesy stunts and fun action as much as the next person, but we expected so much…well, I don’t know what we expected. Not this?
If this movie wasn’t tied to Disney and the many controversies alongside it, it would probably just be a fun, entertaining Mulan movie that we might all laugh about and then forget. Unfortunately, these story writers are paid to make this. Cool.
Aside from the fun cameo of the original Mulan, and some cute moments here and there, it’s sort of hollow. It tries a few new things, like adding the “witch” character, but honestly she, like most of the other characters, have more personality than our main female protagonist. Oh and making the emperor (because he’s Jet Li) super kick-butt was pretty fun. There is so much more you can do with Mulan, and apparently there is a Chinese version that’s supposed to be good. I may check that out, but for now we should all just enjoy the original animation.
